Tyvak International Celebrates 10 Years of Innovation in Space Technology

Torino, Italy – March 31, 2025 – Tyvak International, a leading European satellite manufacturer and subsidiary of Terran Orbital, is proud to celebrate its 10th anniversary, marking a decade of innovation, growth, and contributions to the global space industry.

Founded in 2015 by space enthusiast Marco Villa, Tyvak International began as a bold idea on a small table with a grand vision: to transform how Europe builds satellites. From its humble beginnings in a Torino business incubator, Marco was soon joined by early pioneers Fabio Nichele, Giuseppe Martinotti, Margherita Cardi, Raffaele Mozzillo, and Alessio Piumatti, who started developing the company’s first flatsat platform. As momentum grew, the team quickly expanded with the addition of Filippo Corradino and Benedetta Maggi, who helped scale operations.

Tyvak International has been rooted in passion, agility, and precision since its inception. The company’s transition from the incubator to its dedicated headquarters in 2018 marked a turning point, signaling the beginning of Tyvak’s in-house spacecraft production capabilities. This hands-on, all-in approach would become a defining characteristic of the company’s culture.

Tyvak’s first satellite, Commtrail, launched on December 12, 2019, marking the company’s entry into orbit and paving the way for future achievements. It was Tyvak’s first commercial satellite built for Elbit System.

The company’s rapid rise was fueled by dedication and a commitment to excellence, symbolized by moments such as the 4:00 a.m. delivery of the contract for the second CubeSat on board HERA, a landmark ESA mission. At the time of the proposal, the name was simply HCS-2 (Hera CubeSat 2), then later it became Milani. Since then, Tyvak has supported a diverse array of customers worldwide and has launched 16 satellites to date.

Tyvak’s portfolio now includes:

  • Fleet Space Technologies: 7 satellites delivered
  • European Space Agency (ESA): Milani, FSSCAT
  • Italian Space Agency (ASI): Iperdrone, Future
  • Crunchlabs: SatGus
  • European Defence Agency: VLEO
  • Politecnico di Torino: SPEI Sat

What distinguishes Tyvak International is its deep integration with local, regional, and national suppliers. The company has developed a robust, resilient supply chain by collaborating with Italian CNC machining specialists, testing labs, PCB/PCBA manufacturers, and engineering consultants. This commitment to European industrial capability guarantees quality, agility, and independence from foreign supply constraints.

From just one employee to nearly 70 team members, Tyvak International has emerged as a vital force in Europe’s expanding space ecosystem. The company’s trajectory embodies the spirit of innovation, collaboration, and determination that has characterized its first decade—and will drive its future growth.

As we celebrate this milestone, we honor the people who believed in the vision from the beginning, the partners who have entrusted us with their missions, and the communities that support our work.
